What our patients say...
In late 2008 I had a serious fall and displaced my pelvis. I could not walk without considerable pain...
Musculoskeletal Conditions
There are a number of musculoskeletal disorders which are amenable to osteopathic assessment and treatment. In general, the earlier treatment is sought the less likelihood there is of the condition becoming longstanding and chronic.
Our muscles are designed to contract and then relax acting across the joints of our bodies to either move a joint or hold it in one position. However if we maintain a posture for a long period, for example, when at a computer, then the muscles and joints can tire. Eventually continual misuse may show itself by increased muscle tension causing aches and pains in the neck, shoulders and arms.
Any occupation requiring prolonged or repetitive use of a particular limb or muscle group may be susceptible. Musicians, keyboard users, manual workers and certain sports people are particularly vulnerable.
Appropriate osteopathic treatment designed around each individual’s case may consist of soft tissue massage of muscles, rebalancing of connective tissues and articulation and manipulation of joints. Specific advice will also be given on posture, exercise and management of the condition to speed up healing and prevent recurrences.
If you wish to discuss whether your musculoskeletal condition might be helped by osteopathic treatment please telephone the practice, leave a message with our receptionist and one of the osteopaths will call you back.

Whether a particular individual suffers symptoms depends on other factors too such as their posture, muscle tone and strength, any previous injuries, stress levels etc. This is where the osteopathic approach is invaluable. By taking a detailed case history to establish how the painful symptoms have come about and following this with a careful examination of posture, muscle tone and joint mobility we are able to come to an understanding of how best to address the problem.
